Connecting Māori to opportunity

Mā te whiritahi, ka whakatutuki ai ngā pūmanawa ā tāngata

Together, weaving the realisation of potential

Tā matou e kite nei | What we see

There is increasing demand for Māori capability across the labour market. This demand will continue to grow and accelerate, making it progressively difficult for organisations (including Māori economy organisations) to recruit the Māori capability they need.

At the same time:

  • There is limited understanding of the capabilities, ambitions and immense potential that exists across the Māori workforce.

  • There are significant inefficiencies in the workforce planning, talent pipelining and connecting of Māori talent into the opportunities that exist in the economy.

  • Māori are under-represented in many key employment markets.

  • Māori are more likely than non Māori to be unemployed or under-utilised, earning less, employed in sectors at higher risk of economic shock and not in Employment Education or Training (NEET).

This is an absurd paradox that is hurting the economy and constraining Māori ambition. It needs urgent attention and fresh solutions – for the good of Māori and all of Aotearoa.
